The Financial Reporting Team Lead - Japan Controllership will be responsible for overseeing the financial reporting and accounting functions under both JGAAP and USGAAP. This role will include managing quarterly and annual financial closings, ensuring robust financial controls, and driving process enhancements.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both Japanese and US accounting standards, coupled with leadership experience in managing high-performing finance teams. The collaboration with various stakeholders, including but not limited to Japan life operational subsidiaries, PFI (Prudential Financial Inc.)/PII (Prudential International Insurance) Controller team, Corporate Accounting Policy and Investor Relations will be required.
- Financial Reporting and Closing
o Oversee the preparation and timely completion of JGAAP and USGAAP financial statements on a quarterly and annual basis for Prudential¡Çs life insurance business in Japan as well as the holding company
o Ensure accuracy and compliance with all relevant accounting standards and regulations.
o Collaborate with global finance teams to align financial reporting processes
o Lead Japan Office of Accounting policy to analyze and determine the accounting treatment
o Lead the PHJ finance team to close PHJ stand-alone financials
o Prepare and present quarterly financial result in the senior officer meeting and the Board
- Process Enhancement
¡¡o Identify opportunities for process improvements in financial reporting and accounting operations
¡¡o Lead initiatives to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of financial processes.
¡¡o Implement best practices in financial management and reporting through Japanese subsidiaries.
- Controls and Compliance
o Develop and maintain a strong internal control environment.
o Ensure compliance with corporate policies, procedures, and relevant regulatory requirements.

The Global Retirement and Insurance (GRI) Talent Partner is a strategic partner, talent consultant, and deep talent subject matter expert leading talent management work and serving as liaison between the various HR centers of expertise (COE) in Prudential¡Çs global headquarters in the United States and the Japan Insurance Group in Tokyo.
The GRI Talent Partner works directly with the GRI Talent Lead, GRI leadership, HR executives for the Japan Insurance Group, and Head of Talent Management to design, implement and execute talent processes to address any talent management related challenges and opportunities. This includes performance and succession management, talent mobility, feedback, talent assessment, learning & development, change management, coaching, development planning, identification of critical roles, goal setting, and addressing other talent needs. They utilize talent data and observation to identify broad talent gaps and trends and create and execute strategies to address those gaps and trends either directly or by bringing in appropriate COE resources.
The GRI Talent Partner works with the HR Executives in Japan and Head of Talent Management to develop and deploy enterprise-wide talent strategies that align with the Japan Group¡Çs business and talent goals. This includes partnering with COE leads (e.g., Talent Acquisition, Learning & Development, Change Management & Communications, Inclusion & Belonging, Total Rewards, etc). To accomplish the work, the GRI Talent Partner is part of an embedded team reporting to the GRI Talent Lead in the United States with a strong dotted line to the Japan Group¡Çs Talent COE leader in Tokyo.
The GRI Talent Partner leads the talent review process for senior level talent and works with executive leaders to prepare for CEO Talent Reviews. This includes working with the leadership to identify key themes to discuss, gaps to address, and customized next steps for that organization and to draw connections across the enterprise.
The GRI Talent Partner is responsible for partnering with business and HR executives, to identify critical roles, assess top talent, ensuring succession and development plans are in place, and creating and executing strategies to close succession gaps. The GRI Talent Partner may assess and coach high potential talent at Grade 7+ (and deeper in the organization as capacity allows) to enhance performance, improve readiness for future roles, and enhance mobility and retention.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
-Provide expert talent management consulting to the Japan Group and GRI overall to identify themes and gaps, and solve unique challenges by creating and executing tailored strategies to fit the complex and varied set of global businesses.
-Work seamlessly as a core member of the GRI HR team & Japan Group HR team, developing and deploying a wide array of talent-related solutions to meet GRI and Japan Group business needs.
• Lead work across global leadership teams in order to adopt enterprise talent practices, modifying as needed to fit Japan¡Çs needs.
• Utilize deep knowledge of talent to promote talent mobility (including advocating for talent and influencing leaders to move talent), and to create tailored development plans, including gaining critical experiences, strategic career moves, nominations to development programs, board assignments, brokered introductions to leaders for mentoring , etc.
-Use collected data on talent from talent reviews and assessments to identify key themes, insights and gaps, and lead work to develop tailored solutions to close those gaps.
-Identify critical roles and work with leadership to ensure they are filled with top talent and have deep and ready-now succession plans
-Lead talent review and performance calibrations, and the preparation of materials for CEO Talent Reviews. Provide talent insights to senior leaders; influence to drive key actions. Provide support to follow through on those actions to accelerate talent development and mobility.
-Ongoing assessment and coaching of high potential Grade 5+ Japan talent resulting in accelerated development and deep understanding of talent¡Çs strengths, development areas, next moves, etc.
